Some confusion has existed as to when CVTs in the state of Oregon need to begin reporting CE hours. All CVTs must have completed the required hours in order to renew their license for 2008. In other words if you are a CVT and you want to continue to be a CVT you need 15 hours of CE credit hours by the time you turn in your license renewal paperwork this December. But don't stress! The OVTAA is here to help, while our mission is multi-faceted one of our goals is to provide good quality affordable CE to the assistants and technicians working and living in Oregon. In the works we have several CE events including a one day CE in Medford, but please remember these conferences fill up quickly so RSVP and do so early. See our CE opportunities page for some CE you can get online that will also count toward your required hours.

Technicians Wanted! CVTs in the Eugene area are being sought to help monitor anesthesia and recover patients. Fix Our Ferals is looking for volunteers to work at upcoming spay/neuter clinics to help "fix" stray cats. The events are being held in cooperation with Greenhill Humane Society and Dr. Jerry Boggs of Bush Animal Hospital. The organizers would very much like for this to be a monthly event. The last clinic was held on April 29th. This is a great opportunity to give back to your community and network with other technicians and assistants. If you are interested in how you can be of help, even if you are not a CVT, contact Barbara Gunther 541-729-3669 barbaragunther@comcast.net

We are looking for volunteers for the OVTAA's booth at the NW Pet and Companion Fair April 21st and 22nd at the Portland Expo Center. This is our second annual booth at the fair. Our goal with the booth is to educate the community about what veterinary technicians and assistants do in veterinary clinics and also show the diverse other settings that veterinary assistants and technicians can work in. If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail Darci Love at darcifry@msn.com.

Has your clinic or hospital been seeing cases of illness related to the recently recalled pet foods? If you are seeking more information about which foods have been recalled or want to assist your DVM in reporting suspected cases to the health department visit the OVMA's website www.oregonvma.org for more details.

Are you an assistant or tech in Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson or Josephine counties? Are you interested in seeing more OVTAA activities in your community? What can the OVTAA do to help with the professional challenges you face? We would love feedback. We are currently planning CE in your area as well as looking for volunteers to assist with the establishment of an active district within your community. Please e-mail April Joy Brown, OVTAA president at beebumsmom@comcast.net for more information.
